Light It Up! – Celebrating Christ’s Birth and Spreading The Gospel

It’s the Christmas season once again, and we are celebrating in lots of ways over the next few weeks. Our theme for the month of December is “Light It Up!” Christmas is all about the birth of the true light of the world, Jesus Christ, so this month we are focusing on the many ways that RBC can help get that light into the places and people that it has yet to reach.

We’ve already heard about two ways that our members have helped “Light It Up” during the past year. We heard last Wednesday from one of our members who did mission work in Portland, Oregon during the summer. Sunday night we saw a video about an RBC mission team’s trip to New York City in August to help light up the big city with the Gospel. If you missed those services, don’t worry, because there is still plenty more to come.

Here are some of the upcoming ways we are celebrating Christ’s birth and helping to “Light It Up” this Christmas season.

Sunday, December 11th, 9:00 am:  Join us for breakfast in the Fellowship Hall before Sunday School. We’ll have biscuits, sausage, eggs, gravy, and more! This is a great time of fellowship for everyone.

Sunday, December 11th, 6:00 pm:  We will be presenting the Christmas play “The Shoemaker’s Dream” in the sanctuary. This play shows how ordinary people can “Light It Up” by spreading Christ’s love to others in everyday life. As usual, everyone who attends will receive a treat bag after the play.

Sunday, December 18th, 11:00 am:  The choir will present the Christmas cantata “Noel” during the morning service. They’ve been working hard practicing this music since September, so you won’t want to miss this performance!

Sunday, December 18th, 6:00 pm:  We will hear from two of our members, who recently traveled overseas on a mission trip to help “Light It Up” in a spiritually dark part of the world. Then the children (5th grade and below) will present a short Christmas program in the sanctuary.

Wednesday, December 21, 7:00 pm: We will have our annual Candlelight Carol Service in the sanctuary. This is always a very special service in which we will hear from some of RBC’s talented soloists and musicians, and sing traditional Christmas carols as a congregation. If you haven’t yet gotten into the Christmas spirit, or if you’ve lost it somewhere in all the hustle and bustle, this service is sure to light up the true spirit of Christmas in you.

Sunday, December 25, 11:00 am:  We’ll have a special Christmas morning worship service in the sanctuary. This will be our only service for the day, and there will be no Sunday School or Discipleship Training classes, so that you can enjoy the rest of the day with your family and friends.

Of course, we will also have our regular Sunday morning service on December 11th as well, and regular Wednesday night prayer services on December 7th and 28th. Wednesday, December 14th we will have Family Night classes at 6:30 pm and our monthly Ministry Meeting at 7:15 pm.

Come join us for any or all of these services, and help us to “Light It Up” for Christ this December!
